DIY Recipe: Simple & Healthy Cannabis-Infused Chili

This is pretty much a set-it-and-forget-it recipe—the perfect quick meal for a fall night when you need something hearty but healthy. But just because this chili is simple to make doesn’t mean it lacks taste or complexity. The flavors are robust, the ingredients are rich in fiber and vitamins, plus the added cannabis tincture will bring a whole new meaning to the term “comfort food.”

You can add the marijuana tincture of your choice to this chili. If you live in a state where cannabis tinctures are available, one containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) will give you a nice, full-body high that typically includes some psychoactive affects.

For many, THC helps address a host of health conditions like:

  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Stress
  • Pain

If you don’t have legal access to cannabis tinctures or don’t want to experience cannabis’s psychoactive effects, don’t worry. You can infuse this chili with a non-psychoactive hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) tincture. High-quality hemp CBD is known for its ability to help with, among other things:

  • Inflammation
  • Muscle spasms
  • General pain relief

What’s especially great about hemp CBD tinctures is that they’re available and can be shipped anywhere in the U.S. Just know that hemp CBD tinctures receive the same sort of oversight as dietary supplements, which is to say not that much. That’s why it’s incredibly important to buy your hemp-derived CBD from a trusted source to ensure your hemp CBD is free of additives and is processed safely.

As far as adding the cannabis tincture to your chili, it’s easier to add it separately to each bowl right before serving. By stirring in the cannabis tincture after you’ve portioned it out, you can tailor the dosage to each person’s exact needs and tolerance levels. Plus, you’ll be able to give everyone a more precise cannabis dose.

If you’re stirring the tincture into a giant bowl of chili, it will be hard to get the cannabis dosage the same for each bowl. Of course, if you’re including a hemp-derived CBD that doesn’t produce psychoactive effects, uneven dosages may not be such an issue.

Ingredients for Simple & Healthy Cannabis-Infused Chili

You can easily make this a vegetarian chili by skipping the meat.

  • 5 mL tincture of your choice per serving
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 2 red peppers, cleaned and diced
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • Sea salt
  • Ground black pepper
  • 1 can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 3 cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup frozen corn
  • 1 package (16 oz) meat (beef cubes or ground chicken, pork or beef will work best)

How to Make Simple & Healthy Cannabis-Infused Chili

  1. In a large stock pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onions, peppers, garlic, cumin, cayenne, chili powder, and salt and pepper. Cook until the onions are translucent and soft, around 3 or 4 minutes.
  3. Add the meat to the pot and brown, stirring occasionally.
  4. Then mix in the kidney and black beans, tomatoes and corn.
  5. Turn up the heat to a boil, then lower it to a simmer. Let the chili simmer for 30 minutes while stirring occasionally, allowing all of the flavors to meld together.
  6. Scoop chili into as many bowls as needed.
  7. Before you serve, add the cannabis or hemp-derived CBD tincture to each bowl and mix thoroughly.
  8. You can top this chili with Greek yogurt (a healthier alternative to sour cream), cheddar cheese, and green onions if you want to add more flavor.
