Why do I need to renew my Medical card now that marijuana is legal in California

Hi there!

Although you are not required to renew your medical marijuana recommendation, please note NOT all cities and counties in California have begun Adult-Use Marijuana sales. This means depending on your location, you may live in an area where a medical marijuana recommendation is required to purchase from dispensary, as recreational sales have either not started or have been banned completely. Some examples of these cities include San Rafael, South Lake Tahoe, and Stockton. You can use the link below to The Cannaifornian to see what the status is in your place of residence.

Another reason why you may need to renew your medical marijuana recommendation is depending on your cannabis consumption. Recreational patients are limited to purchase up to 28.5 grams (one ounce) of cannabis flower, up to six (6) immature cannabis plants, and edibles containing no more than 100mg of THC per package. Medical patients can purchase up to eight (8) ounces of cannabis flower, up to twelve (12) immature cannabis plants and edibles containing over 100mg of THC per package.

If you have a higher consumption level of cannabis, you may benefit from renewing your recommendation. You should also check to ensure that you live in an area where recreational sales have begun. If recreational marijuana sales have not started in your area, you will need to renew your medical marijuana recommendation in order to purchase from a medical dispensary.

I hope this information helps! 🙂

It’s the only way to not pay sales tax. You need a County Medical Card. Bring in the HelloMD forms to prove you have a doctor recommendation, but you need the doctor’s contact info as the COunty said they will call to verify. Do we use the HelloMD address? But where do you find a phone number?
