Joint pain from arthritis effects about 10 million people in the world today. Those that are effected by joint pain after chemotherapy are unknown, That being said however, cannabis has been used for centuries to help with joint pain. Today there are many oils and creams that can be used topically on the skin over the joints that are painful. The anti-inflammatory effect of cannabis as well as it's ability to modulate the immune system has made it a staple in many people who suffer from joint pain either form osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid arthritis.

Cannabis infused creams and oils and other trans-dermal methods work by binding to CB2 receptors that are part of the bodies endocannabinoid system. Some of the topicals do not have any THC in them at all and therefor avoid any psychoactive effects. Even those with some THC in them have a mild, if any, psychoactive effect. Part of the reason is that it is difficult for these creams to pass through the skin and need to be combined in an oil base. Transdermal patches with THC can cause some psychoactive effects since that don't evaporate as fast as topicals and can permeate the skin over time enter the bloodstream.
