Who doesn’t love a good açai bowl? The only problem with this healthy treat is that it can get a little pricey when you order it at a fancy juice bar or café. So, instead of doling out $10 whenever the craving hits, why not make your own açai bowl at home? And while you’re at it, you can add a little bit of cannabis to the mix.

For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of tasting açai, it has a distinct taste that’s reminiscent of wild berries and chocolate. This small berry originates from South and Central America and was quite popular in Brazil before it became a hit in the U.S.

Stateside, açai is known as an antioxidant powerhouse, making it easy to find in the freezer section of health food stores across the nation. Additionally, açai is low in sugar and high in healthy fats, meaning açai bowls can be especially filling.

Since cannabis is fat soluble, adding a bit to an açai bowl is a great way to help your body make good use of cannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) found in cannabis. This way, you’ll not only reap the benefits of açai, you’ll also enjoy the positive effects—from pain relief to improved mood—of cannabis as well.

To make an açai bowl, you start with frozen açai and blend it with frozen fruit for a thick creamy texture that serves as the base for all kinds of toppings. Açai bowls are often eaten for breakfast, or they can be served as a cooling treat during the summer months.

Some popular açai bowl toppings are:

  • Banana
  • Granola
  • Coconut flakes
  • Chia seeds
  • Nuts
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries

This recipe keeps it simple with two toppings: granola and fresh fruit. That said, açai bowls are great canvases on which you can create whatever satisfying, healthy treat you have in mind. Add whatever fruit toppings you’d like for additional vitamins, nutrients and flavors.

Ingredients for Simple & Cooling Cannabis Açai Bowl

Serves 1

  • 1 frozen açai berry packet (3.5 oz)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/4 cup coconut water
  • 1 handful fresh fruit of your choice
  • 1/4 cup granola
  • 1 half or whole dropperful of cannabis tincture

How to Make Simple & Cooling Cannabis Açai Bowl

  1. Combine the frozen açai berry packet, frozen banana, coconut water and cannabis tincture in a blender. Blend until smooth. You may have to add more coconut water to get a consistency that you’re happy with.

  2. Transfer açai mixture to a bowl, then top with granola and fruit, and dig in immediately.
