DIY Nourishing Hemp Facial Oil

Hemp oil can be an amazing addition to your skincare routine. Read on for instructions on how to make your own hemp facial oil at home (it’s so easy!).

We know, adding oil to your face—especially if you have oily skin—may seen counterintuitive. (This is probably especially true if you’re a teenager of the ’80s and ’90s and remember all of the Clearasil and Neutrogena commercials of yore.) But facial oils can be a game-changer in your skincare routine. In addition to hydrating differently from standard moisturizing creams, facial oils can also be used to remove makeup, as a cleanser and even to spot-treat blemishes. Plus, the addition of hemp oil, or cannabis sativa oil, ups the ante even more.

Hemp Oil Heals Skin

Hemp oil has a long history of helpfulness, both when used topically and when ingested. It has potent anti-inflammatory properties, and there is some evidence to support that it can help with symptoms related to menopause, nervous system disorders, anxiety and depression, and more.

Where your skin is concerned, the following are just some of the issues for which hemp oil can be useful:

  • psoriasis
  • eczema
  • acne
  • stretch marks
  • scarring
  • dried, cracked skin
  • wrinkles

Hemp oil is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and it contains vitamin E and carotene antioxidants which assist in repairing damaged skin and promoting cell growth.

How to Make Hemp Facial Oil At Home

You can spend a lot of money buying name brand facial oils but most don’t contain cannabis sativa oil. The good news is, you can easily make your own. Our recipe is relatively simple: It only requires four ingredients. Plus, hemp oil is non-psychoactive and can be purchased without a medical cannabis recommendation. It can also be purchased online.

Note: You can try different carrier and essential oils than we’ve recommended here, but this is our tried-and-true method.

My recipe is relatively simple; it’s got only four ingredients. Hemp seed oil is non-psychoactive and can be bought without a medical marijuana recommendation. It may also be purchased online.

As with any facial product, mix and test the oil on a small patch of skin before slathering over your entire body.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz bottle
  • 1 small funnel
  • Carrier oils: jojoba and hemp seed (also sometimes called cannabis sativa oil or hemp oil)
  • Essential oils: lavender, geranium and rose hip

Method

  1. Start with a clean bottle (look for bottles specifically manufactured for carrying cosmetics). Fill the bottle 3/4 full—half of that amount should be jojoba oil and the other half hemp seed oil.
  2. The next part is more art than science and is dependent on how much aroma you’d like. Add as many drops of the lavender, geranium and rose hip oil as you’d like and then top it off with more hemp seed oil. That’s it, it’s that simple.
